Some exciting three years of Cultures of Remembrance are behind us. We met amazing people, learnt so much about remembrance work, but also about us and our collective work. We surprised ourselves with the variety and quality of travels, workshops and the exhibition. We aimed high – and are proud of the achieved. Of course we already have a lot of ideas how to continue and improve, what could have been done better or in another way…but first…

Lets take a short break to say thank you! To everyone involved, artists, activists, friends and families.

Network meeting – 22nd of April, 6pm, online

On 22nd of April, 6pm to 8pm Berlin-time, we invite you for a network meeting with our friends and participants within the last 3 years. We will share some future ideas and invite you to share your thoughts and input on how to continue the project on transnational remembrance work. If you are interested in joining, please write us to remembrance(at)educat-kollektiv.org. The meeting will be held in English language and online on the platform “BigBlueButton”.

Cultures of Remembrance – Call for participation / Funding

We, the educat collective, a political education collective from Germany, are looking for new funding opportunities and partnerships for our project Cultures of remembrance. It’s a project that aims to critically examine how World War II, National Socialism and the fight against it is remembered in different regions  and marginalized Groups. We want to develop alternative concepts for commemoration work.

What we did so far:

  • Media Archive: This multimedia archive combines different approaches, media and methods that we consider necessary for transnational remembrance work.
    https://cultures-of-remembrance.com/en/
  • Educational Trips: The project included by now 4 international exchanges in Ukraine ( 2021), Russia (2021) , Greece (2022) and Georgia (2023). During the encounters, interested people and experts from different regions came together to learn about the remembrance cultures of the host country and to exchange ideas about alternative concepts of remembrance work.
  • Exhibition: In 2023 we hosted a exhibition in Berlin. The exhibition aims to create visibility to perspectives that are underrepresented within remembrance work and education, but also tries to open up for continuities and understanding of history repeating in totalitarian regimes and tries to encounter parallels to recent fights. The formats of the exhibits are diverse: soundscapes, art works, interactive maps, games, brochures, comics, audiowalks, etc. along with physical and artistic exhibits. The artists are working with different narratives connected to different regions of the world and different marginalized groups . Together they ask: How is transnational remembrance possible? https://cultures-of-remembrance.com/en/exhibition
  • Workshops: The project was accompanied by 20 online and offline events that emphasised the multi-perspective approach of the project.

What we want to do in the future:

  • traveling exhibition: We would like to show our exhibition at various locations. Both in Germany and in other places.
  • Educational trips: From 2025, we want to organise new international meetings.
  • build a formal network: We want to establish a network of international partners that is committed to a pluralistic and transnational culture of remembrance.
  • enlarge the Media Archive

What do we need for it:

  • New funding Opportunities
  • new international project Partners
  • Content ideas and contributors for the exhibition, the media Archive and Workshops
  • Places to Host the exhibition
